Birthstones are gemstones that have been allied to the different months of the year. Throughout history gemstones and semi-precious stone have been associated with different events and attributed different meanings. There are gemstones that are associated with each of the planets in our solar system. There are also stones that are associated with days of the week, star signs, wedding anniversaries and of course, birthdays. All birthstones have meanings, here are a few of the more popular ones! They have changed over time, however, finally in 1912 the National Association of Jewellers standardised the stones that we know and recognise today.
The modern birthstone for January is the Garnet and this stone represents consistency, perseverance and good health.
