Body piercing and modification is not a new phenomenon, it has in fact been around in one form or another for the last thirty thousand years! Nose piercing was made popular by the men of the South Pacific islands. It has enjoyed a rise in popularity again in the last two decades and the range of nose jewelry available has made it a more attractive prospect.

When you are having your nose pierced, this can be done in one of two ways, either, the nostril or the septum can be pierced. The type of nose jewelry that you would like to wear will be affected by the part of your nose that you have pierced. For example, if you have your nostril pierced, perhaps the most popular and traditional choice is the stud. There are however, alternatives and other types of nose jewellery available.

Another choice
is the nose ring and titanium is replacing the traditional gold and silver because of the amazing range of colours available. Using titanium gives the wearer a much wider choice of sizes and styles. If you decide to have your septum pierced, this is the bridge of soft tissue separating your nostrils, your will be able to buy circular barbell style nose jewelry. Barbells are horseshoe shaped rings with detachable balls on each end. These are a versatile type of nose jewellery as the balls can be made from different materials, giving the wearer a lot more choice. Barbells also come as a straight bar with either balls or cones on the end pieces. If it is not possible for you to sport your nose piercing at all times then it is a good idea to invest in a retainer. These are tubes made from acrylic which are transparent and can be used when you cannot wear studs or other nose jewelry.
