Asscher cut engagement rings are becoming a trend as they offer a fancier and more sophisticated style as compared to traditional ones. With all the variations available for engagement rings, one can get easily lost with the qualifications of a good piece in terms of the band itself and of course the gemstone that is fitted. There are different types of gemstone cuts that are set on rings.

The Asscher cut is square-shaped with trimmed corners resembling an octagon. For others, it is also known as the square emerald cut and for some it is usually referred to as a modified cushion cut. This cut offers more internal refraction because of the many parallel steps done during the process of cutting.

This cut was named after its creator, the Asscher brothers of Amsterdam, Holland,
in 1902. They are known for cutting precious gemstones such as the Cullinan Diamond, which is a part of the British crown jewels. Moreover, to ensure that the diamonds will not be duplicated and distributed as counterfeit, it was redesigned and repatented in 2001.

Because it is exclusively patented, every release of this diamond has the family insignia. Moreover, they have assigned identification numbers to each, which can be found on the stone's girdle. These prints are not visible to the naked eye. One has to use a high-magnification lens in order to verify the stone's authenticity.

Many people choose this unique Asscher cut for the sake of individuality, class, and elegance. It is not really the number one choice yet for engagement rings because of its rarity and probably the price, but it is slowly gaining popularity.
