Everybody loves gold jewellery. But sometimes we cannot afford it or may not want to wear it due to religious or other reasons. There are some alternatives to pure gold including silver, white gold and platinum. Many people now want to go for these materials because of the high price of gold and the extra care and protection it requires.

Sterling silver is becoming increasingly popular because of its durability and brilliant shine. Sterling is actually not pure silver. It is an alloy of silver containing around 92% pure silver. Because of this reason sterling silver jewellery is somewhat less expensive than pure silver jewellery and it can be used as an alternative to gold.

Similarly, white gold is an alloy of gold containing one white metal. There are many types of white gold depending on the amounts of alloy metals used and the purity
of gold. Due to the addition of these metals, some people develop an allergic reaction to white gold. For other people it can serve as a great alternative to pure yellow gold and even silver.

Platinum is another precious metal and is extensively used as a substitute for pure gold. It is especially used in the making of men’s jewellery like rings and watches. Its color is somewhat like white gold but more to the grayish side. It is widely used in the making of fine jewellery and to complement diamond and pearl earrings, rings and other items.

Because platinum resists corrosion, it is an excellent alternative to pure gold. Though platinum is found naturally like gold, it is very rare and therefore it is more expensive than gold. Like white gold, some people have allergic reactions to platinum. People also use platinum as an alternative to white gold.
