Indian Wedding Jewellery Do's and Don'ts

As with any other cultural accessories, adorning the bride using Indian wedding jewellery has certain dos and don’ts. One should keep in mind that when purchasing any piece of jewellery entails investment—that is, if properly cared for can last a lifetime. Another point is to keep in mind the overall body size and shape of the bride so as to make the pieces complement and not go against her features.

For the petite bride, she should wear collar length or longer necklaces because the V-shaped ones or those that hang between the breast and waist elongate her torso. As to bracelets, it is better to have several narrow bangles than having one thick one so as not to shorten her arms. With earrings, she should opt for those that make the viewers look up than down.

For the average height bride, the necklaces are the most versatile piece because any length will work for her. Wide bracelets will also suit her. Earrings in triangles, squares, and ovals will complement her.

For the tall bride, she can also practically wear necklaces of any length. She may choose to wear chokers. She can also go for gemstones or pearls. For bracelets, because her arms are long, she should avoid narrow bracelets and go for wider ones. If she must wear the thin ones, she should wear several pieces together. To accentuate her length, she should wear long dangling earrings.

Not only should the bride think of her height, she should also think of her built. Some accessories go well with slender ones. Some work wonders for the heavier built brides. The bride should make sure to try on the accessories so she can visualize what her look will be on the big day.
