Jewellery Cross: Knowing the Types of Crosses

Before buying a jewellery cross from any of the available selections, it is best to understand first the different types of cross designs being used in art, jewelry making, and other ornaments today.

One of the most common designs in jewellery cross is the traditional Latin cross. This cross features a vertical bar that is being intersected by a shorter horizontal bar a few spaces above its midpoint. Christians all over refer to this cross as the Crucifix, and is a symbol of faith and resurrection. Another type of cross is the Greek cross. This cross has several variations, and one of these is the simple plus-like sign. Another variant employs the Latin cross with a slanting bar intersecting its lower part. This is also known as the Greek-Russian Orthodox cross.

The Celtic cross is another famous type of jewellery cross. It features a circle behind the point where the two bars of the Latin cross meet. It is also recognized as the Wheel Cross or the Ring Cross, primarily due to the circular shape around the conventional cross. This variation of jewellery cross is known to represent the powers of the divine and eternity. In some cases, the round object symbolizes the sun or the moon which governs night and day.

Most jewelry manufacturers would create cross jewelries using stainless steel, gold, silver, or platinum. In some instances, crystal, wood, and stained glass can also be used for a more whimsical charm. The jewellery cross is perfect for gifts and ideal for a growing jewelry collection.
