Diamonds are exquisite gemstone and buying a diamond is always an investment and so it pays to take care of your diamond jewellery by cleaning and maintaining it regularly. There are several factors to take into consideration when deciding on which cleaning method to use. The main reason for cleaning is that when diamonds are worn next to the skin they will inevitably become clogged with dirt and oily debris. Wearing your diamond ring while doing the
washing up also adds to this build up which coats the backs of the stones. Cleaning diamonds takes away all of this dirt and debris and allows lightwaves to enter the stone and reflect back out restoring their sparkle.

Most diamond jewellery is mounted in either gold or platinum and the mount itself
can be cleaned using warm soapy water. It may also be necessary to loosen dirt that has lodged behind stones with an old toothbrush. If warm soapy water does not appeal to you, there's always a drop of gin! Some people swear by this method of cleaning their
jewellery, however, this work out to be quite expensive over the life of the diamond!!

The other popular method of cleaning diamond jewellery is with proprietary jewellery cleaner. This is a solution based cleaner, which you dip your diamonds into and then wipe clean. There is also a sonic cleaner. Traditionally used by jewellers and not available on the retail market, this cleaner uses ammonia and detergent with the ultrasonics providing the agitation to speed up the process. My best advice is to try the warm soapy water and the brush first!
