Baby bracelets are excellent keep sake gifts for boys and girls for christenings, communions and just as a general gift birthday’s and Christmas

You never know what to get as a gift for a small child, from toys to clothes they grow out of them so fast if you want to buy a gift for a loved one that is both sentimental and will last a life time then a piece of jewelry is a perfect choice. As the saying goes “diamonds are forever” jewelry is indeed a lasting gift even if it doesn’t contain expensive gems a baby bracelet will last a lifetime and serve as a memento from someone special like grandparents or godparents.

Baby jewelry is great for a christening gift as the baby is too young to appreciate anything that you buy for them so most gifts tend to be for the parents or the old cliché of silver spoons and fist tooth pill boxes. When buying some small baby jewelry you know the gift will be for the child and that they will remember it for the rest of their lives as a keepsake of their childhood and it can also be passed onto their child as a family heirloom.

When you have decided you want to purchases some special jewelry for a special child you need to decide what type of jewelry to opt for. For a very small baby the only safe option is really a baby bracelet as these are made of gold or silver band with the baby’s name engraved upon it, they usually don’t come with any dangly parts that can easily fall off and be swollowed by the child.

Baby bracelets are the cutest gift they can come in a range of styles and colors the usual being a gold band with small engravings of flowers and other designs with an engraving plate for a small message or the child’s name. You don’t have to worry too much about size as they are made with an extending clasp that allows the bracelet to go from very tiny to expand to the size of a small child of about 6 or 7 years depending on the size of the child so they will get a long time out of their gift.

Safety is paramount when it comes to baby jewelry it is not something that you usually think of when buying jewelry but it’s the number one priority when selecting baby jewelry. When discussing safety tips you really need to adhere to rules of common sense, just make sure that the jewelry you buy for a small baby has no long chains or any loose clasps or charms that can fall off or be pulled off by the child.

Allergies are a big problem here as small babies have very sensitive skin and any harsh alloys can cause a rash or even an allergic reaction so find out from the parent s before hand if the child has any known allergies to any metals or alloys. Nickel free jewelry is a great option even if the baby has no known allergies as this is what most people are allergic too and don’t even know it until they put the alloy close to their skin. An allergic rash can develop and in severe cases the arm or wrist can swell up, this is the last thing that you want to happen when you give a gift especially to a small child so always opt for Nickel free just in case.

Gold jewelry is usually made from gold plus other alloys to strengthen the gold as gold in its natural state is very soft and would not be suitable for jewelry making as it would have very little wear and tear durability so this is why its mixed with other alloys such as copper and nickel to make is stronger. The carat of the gold denotes what rate of gold to other metals is in the gold so gold of a high carat will be purer in content and therefore less likely to cause an allergic reaction. Gold’s of 24carat are usually safe as they contain very little other metals that your baby can create a reaction to.

For an older child a great idea is a charm bracelet as these can indeed grow with a child through their lives. Charm bracelets are a great gift as they can be added too over the years, the idea is to add charms to the bracelet that represent the personality and life of the owner. Zodiac signs, hobbies, interests and names can be represented by a charm. There is a charm for everything you can think of such as birthstone (this would be a great starting off gift), love hearts, animals, cars, Barbies you name it you can find a charm to match it.

These are great for children as they can mix and match their charms to represent their mood that day. As the child gets older and graduates high school and college, has their own children the charm bracelet can grow with them adding charms to represent milestones in their life such as a scroll, a wedding cake or a soother for their first child. This really is a thoughtful and personal gift that can last a life time and can be handed down from generation to generation as a family heirloom.
