There is nothing like a beautiful set of vintage earrings to complement any outfit. They are a must have for the celebrities on the red carpet in Hollywood. They give elegance and style to any evening gown turning it into a glamorous timeless look that every women envies. This is why antique earrings have become a very popular collector’s piece as they are very wearable as well as collectables. Within different eras in time there were fashion movements and craftsmen that influenced the style of the times. In antique jewelry we can identify which are a piece came from by the style and look of the piece and identifying it with certain craftsmen and popular designs of the time. The Rococo movement is one of my favorites and began in the 18th century during the Georgian period in England.
Now days we are influenced by pop culture and TV styles being set by music artist and TV stars and the beautiful people of Hollywood. A hundred years ago and more the Kings and Queens were the celebrities of there time setting styles that were then followed by the ordinary people of the day. Whatever art, music, clothing designs, jewelry and hairstyles the Royal families of Europe were wearing the trend
would have a ripple effect across the land eagerly followed by the masses. It is fair to say that the styles of the last centuries were heavily influenced by the personal style and characteristics of the Kings and Queens of the time.
What was the Rococo period trademark style?
King Louis the XV of France had a major influence in Europe in the early 18th century. His flamboyant attitude and style that later could be argued got him beheaded by his own people was famous across the land. It was a new and amorous style that was welcomed after years of the Baroque period were styles were very serious and symmetrical emulating the regimented feeling of the 16th to 18th centuries.
The flamboyant and over the top attitudes of the French Royals was expressed in there attire and lifestyles this attitude was embraced by the designers and craftsmen of the time such as Flaxh, Albini and Taute no longer was the three tiered pearl earring the statues symbol of the rich and famous but the Rococo styles of flirtation and nature were the diamonds of the day. Rococo vintage earrings are heavily inspired by nature, the word Rococo its self is loosely translated into shells and nature. Shells, insects, birds and flowers were commonly represented in the designs of this period as well and the materials used to make the items.
