Gruen offers traditional classic watches for ladies and gents and is recognized worldwide as one of the leading designers in the watch making industry

Gruen produced some of the worlds most beautiful and high quality watches over the last century and the watches are still sought after by people who want t a stylish classic look and collectors alike. There are four basic styles of Gruen that are the most popular and they are explained below:

Gruen Tenchni-Quadron
This style was released in 1928 and was most commonly referred to as the “doctor’s watch” due to the huge second dial that made it easy to read a patience pulse. The watch itself had a rectangular face and the top and bottom dial were very similar big sizes. The watch was popular among professionals especially doctors, engineers and other technical professionals due to the maneuverability of the buckle allowing the watch to slide up and down the wrist freeing the hands.

The Square Carr

Carr being French for square, this square shaped pocket watch was released in 1931 and was marketed to both genders it could be either a man's pocket watch or a lady’s purse watch. It was an elegant square shape with the numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9 arranged in the four corners giving the face a diamond appearance. The hands were luminous so they could be seen in the dark and they retailed at about $55 at the time about $1500 in today’s value.

The Famous Curvex Line

The Curvex was released in 1935 as the Curvex Governor for men and the Curvex Queen for women. This was the most famous of the Gruen vintage collection and was the company’s flagship all the way through the 1940s until it terminated in 1956. The watch was famous for its internal movements which were curved no other manufacturer had this style at the time. The technique was patented to the Greun Company but the style was emulated by other manufactures with an inferior outcome. The Curvex was an elite line that couldn’t be copied to the same standard by any other manufacturer at the time.

The Unique Ristside
This got its name by the style of the watch which was to be worn on the side of ones wrist in alignment with the thumb. All the Ristsides were rectangular and have curved cases which were very stylish and elegant. It was launched in 1937 and was a limited edition making these the most desired by collectors. In contrary to its collectability the Ristside didn’t sell that well as people didn’t warm to the wearing of the watch in that manner.
