I’m sure you are familiar with the old saying that “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” but choosing your diamond ring is a bit like choosing your best friends. You need a lot of information before you make the right choice. Many people are unaware of the different types of diamonds and think all are clear. For example are you aware of black diamond engagement rings? Or how about Blue Diamonds or the chocolate diamond. There are so many choices to avail off so information is the key to success.

Familiarize yourself with the term “The 4 C’s”. The 4 C’s of diamonds will help you determine why a diamond will vary so much in price.

The 4 C’s are as follows:

1) Clarity
The clarity of the diamond determines the purity of the stone or how clear the diamond actually is. Clarity is broken down into different grades. Laser Drilling and fracture filling are the 2 method systems used to enhance the clarity grade of diamonds.

2) Color
The color determines the amount of color within the diamond. Rare colors such as pink, blue, green or red are much more expensive than the more common yellow,

3) Cut
The cut is determined by the following: Polish, Symmetry, Finish, Proportions of the diamond.

All of the above factored in will determine the brilliance and fire of the diamond. The better the cut the more expensive the diamond, purely cut will sell as cheap diamonds. Brilliance is the amount of light that reflects to the eye.

4) Carat
The carat is simply the weight unit of the diamond (0.20 is equal to one carat). The larger the carat the more expensive the diamond. One complete large carat will be with more than 2 half cut carats.

The above information on the 4 C’s is very brief, by searching the Internet you will find a more comprehensive guide.

Online purchasing of diamonds is safe once you ensure the store online is reputable and a certified jeweler. Loose diamonds are also an option and can be fitted to a band of your own choice from a skilled jeweler. Buying a loose diamond will require a little homework and I would defiantly recommend a little research before hand **again the 4 C’s* *.
