Pearls, Moonstone and Alexandrite - The Three Birthstones For The Month Of June

There are three birthstones for the month of June; they are named as pearls, moonstone, and Alexandrite. Pearls are known to be organic in nature, and they are created in particular types of mollusks. Though the pearls may be found naturally but the majority of its commercial sources are cultured in oyster farms. The substance that creates this gemstone is generally aragonite, a soft carbonate mineral.

Its color mainly depends on the environment where these pearls are created. The gemstone is usually found in white color, however you can also get them in some other shades like black, cream, gray, blue, yellow, lavender and green. These gemstones are mostly found in Japan.

If you take a look at the old history of China, you would come to know that pearls were considered as a symbol of wealth, power and long life. However, according to Arabs and Persians these gemstones were a cure for mental illness and some other diseases. Even today, some of these gemstones are used as a medication.

Moonstone is the second birthstone for the month of June. This gemstone is named because of the bluish white spots within it, so when it is brought to light, a silvery color is created, which is much like to that of moon.
This gemstone is associated with the feldspar family of minerals. Sri Lanka is the country that is famous for its moonstones. But you can also find them in Alps, Malagasy, Burma and India.

Alexandrite is the third birthstone of June. This gemstone is named after the Russian Prince Alexander. It was discovered in 1839 in the Ural Mountains of Russia.
So far not much known about this stone the reason is that it was discovered so recently. Alexandrite is the most favorite gem of the Russians because it represents their national colors of green and red. According to the Russians the Alexandrite is a sign of fate and destiny.
