Years ago synthetic diamonds were a rarity nowadays however; they are fast becoming an extremely desirable stone. Being able to afford a diamond ring of good quality was always a privilege reserved for the wealthy, now thanks to strides in technology diamonds are at last affordable to everyone. With the introduction of man made diamonds, faux diamonds and synthetic diamonds to the market the choice is also better than ever.

In the recent past the “diamond” look was achieved by using rhinestones. These stones occur naturally and are semi precious in their own right. Rhinestones however, can sometimes loose their sparkle and will not last in the same way as a real diamond would. They are ideal for costume jewellery and can be used on their own or with other coloured crystals to give an overall
dramatic effect. Jewellery that is manufactured using rhinestones tends to be on the large size and generally made to create an impact, although you can also pick up some more subtle pieces.

Man made diamonds also made a great substitute for the real thing. “Diamonds” made in this manner can also be extremely hard to tell apart from naturally occurring diamonds. Sometimes even the jewellers have trouble doing this! When buying your man made diamond be sure to get one that will mimic the characteristics of the real thing. Diamonds by their very nature sparkle and radiate light, this is what makes them so attractive as a gemstone. When buying your synthetic diamond buy one that has an excellent ability to take in lightwaves and bounce them back out without loosing any along the way. Then you’ll be the only one who will know its synthetic!
