William Gregor discovered titanium in 1791 but did not realize its value then. It was in 1795 when Austrian chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth identified its properties and gave it a grade and its name, the number 22 and titanium (a Greek god). The lack of technology in those days limited its use for 202 years until in 1997 the titanium moissanite came along. Since then titanium rings inset with moissanite or other precious stones including diamonds became very popular.

As titanium occurs naturally in the earth’s crust and other planets it compliments the natural quality of moissanite stones. Titanium moissanite is a perfect blend that lasts for a lifetime has a very high corrosion resistance. It is very popular with deep sea divers and surfers because titanium is resistant to salt water. The quality that makes moissanite special is its hardness. Surprisingly it
is as hard as a diamond. When tested for hardness on the Mohs scale it measures 9.25 as compared to 10 of a diamond. Thus a moissanite has almost all the qualities of a diamond but unlike the diamond it is affordable.

Usually titanium moissanite rings made for both men and women sell for just a fraction of the cost of a diamond ring of equal size. On the other hand a moissanite has more sparkle than a diamond and this factor too attracts people who are looking for affordable but genuine stones to make jewelry. Actually the price of moissanite jewelry items is determined by the material and the design rather than the stone. They are within the reach of everybody and you can have them as beautiful as you want them to be, just like a diamond. The greatest advantage of these rings is their price and the similarity of a moissanite with the diamond. Both these factors play a big role in people’s choices when they buy jewelry.
