Golf Leaf Jewellery – the Alternative to Solid Gold

Golf leaf as the name suggests is a layer of gold as thin as a leaf. It is the thinnest type of gold that is available to jewellery manufacturers. Gold itself is an ideal material to be made into gold leaf. As the pure gold weight of twenty-four carat is quite pliant this makes it a perfect material to be hammered into gold leaf. Golf leaf itself is mainly used to gilding and can be seen adorning the pages of famous books such as the Book of Kells. Gold Leaf Jewellery is also very popular and a contrast to gold jewellery itself.

Golf leaf varies in thickness from 1/800mm to 1/10,000mm. When it is applied to metal jewellery or other materials and a chemical bonding process achieves this. Gold leaf is also available in many different forms with the most well known being 22 or 23 carat deep gold leaf, 22 or 23 carat transfer gold leaf, imitation gold leaf and variegated gold leaf, this last one refers to different coloured gold.

Finishing jewellery in gold leaf is an excellent contrast to solid gold jewellery. As it is still gold it will not tarnish, although the imitation gold leaf will so make sure you are getting the 22 or 23 carat golf leaf on your jewellery. More contemporary designers have emerged recently that use gold leaf in their jewellery designs. Jewellery that is manufactured with a gold leaf design tends to be more understated but no less stunning. More often that not it is the more delicate pieces that garner the most attention.
